Engaging Meaningful Memories through journaling by Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere
At Emma’s Story, we empower young people with cancer to discover their unique voices through multimedia journaling. We help them process their emotions, celebrate milestones, and create meaningful memories—one page at a time.

How We Started
Our initiative won first place at the 2023 Yale CBIT Healthcare Hackathon among 15 teams and over 200 engineers, designers, clinicians, and entrepreneurs. Emma’s Story, an interactive multimedia journal book, aims to address the challenges young cancer patients and their families face. Our commitment to patient experience and engagement is acknowledged by healthcare industry leaders, educators, and entrepreneurs.

“On Keeping a Journal.
Superficial to understand the journal as just a receptacle for one’s private, secret thoughts—like a confidante who is deaf, dumb, and illiterate. In the journal I do not just express myself more openly than I could do to any person; I create myself.
The journal is a vehicle for my sense of selfhood. It represents me as emotionally and spiritually independent. Therefore (alas) it does not simply record my actual, daily life but rather—in many cases—offers an alternative to it.”
